Jesus' Ascension
  • Summary

On May 18th, 30 CE, Jesus made his last appearance on earth. He appeared to his eleven apostles in the upper room and then led the apostles to the Mount of Olives. The apostles knelt in a circle around him as he spoke his last words on earth.

When he was finished speaking, he vanished from their sight and returned to the right hand of the Father.

  • Jesus Appears to the Apostles in the Upper Room

Early in the morning of May 18th, 30 CE, Jesus made his nineteenth appearance on earth. His eleven apostles were meeting for breakfast in the upper room of Elijah Mark’s home, the scene of the last supper.

While preparing to eat, Jesus appeared, urging them to wait in Jerusalem until receiving the Spirit of Truth for empowerment. Simon Zelotes questioned if this meant the restoration of the kingdom, but Jesus clarified they were to seek a spiritual kingdom and spread the gospel worldwide. He highlighted the importance of companionship and mutual support, particularly as he was about to leave them for the Father. Jesus then led them to the Mount of Olives for his final farewell.

  • Jesus’ Ascension

At about seven-thirty on this May morning, Jesus and his silent and confused apostles paused on the western slope of Olivet where they could look out over Jerusalem and Gethsemane. Without having to be told, the apostles formed a circle around Jesus and knelt before him. And Jesus spoke his last words on earth:

"I ask that you remain in Jerusalem until you are endowed with power from on high. I am now about to take leave of you; I am about to ascend to my Father, and soon, very soon, will we send into this world of my sojourn the Spirit of Truth; and when he has come, you shall begin the new proclamation of the gospel of the kingdom, first in Jerusalem and then to the uttermost parts of the world. Love men with the love wherewith I have loved you and serve your fellow mortals even as I have served you. By the spirit fruits of your lives impel souls to believe the truth that man is a son of God, and that all men are brethren. Remember all I have taught you and the life I have lived among you. My love overshadows you, my spirit will dwell with you, and my peace shall abide upon you. Farewell."

Upon speaking these words, at about seven forty-five this May morning, the risen Master vanished from their sight, just as he had done in all of his previous appearances in the forty days since his resurrection.

Jesus of Nazareth was subsequently released from his status as a risen mortal and returned to his previous status as the Creator Son of God. He rose to the right hand of his heavenly Father, who formally confirmed that this Creator Son, Christ Michael, had completed and achieved sovereignty of this universe.
